SSA Rapids - Spring 2011 - Another impressive season
In a 2-0 upset over the first-place ASA Attack at Arundel High School on June 12, the U17 Seneca Rapids toppled the standings to advance to Division 3 of the NCSL (8-1-0) after an injury-plagued season.
Two-time State Cup quarter-finalists under Head Coach Lance Van Winter, the Rapids' championship run in the NCSL capped a year of near-misses that included finalist appearances in both the Richmond Capital Classic in November and the Baltimore March Mania tournament. The Rapids finished their NCSL season with the best goal-differential in Division 4 (32-4).
Seneca Rapids - Rapidly becoming a force in Maryland Soccer
The U15 Seneca Rapids won the open high school division of the 2009 Germantown Soccerplex Winter Outdoor League in a 6-1-2 run -- and went undefeated (7-0-0) in the U15 division of the Discovery Center winter futsal league. The Rapids have won four championships in nine months, including the 2008 Mason Dixon tournament (4-0-0) and August Cup (4-0-0). Previously, they were semi-finalists (3-1-0) in the 2008 Virginian, and champions of the 2008 Rockville Sportsplex winter indoor league (8-0-0). The Rapids are trained by VanWinterSoccer, and play in Division 4 of the NCSL. Contact Coach Jim Haner at RapidsInfo@verizon.net, or call 301-816-8654.
